Kolkata: A person was arrested on charges of molesting a woman in a moving minibus of Paikpara – Garia route on Wednesday night.
Amit Baran Das, a resident of Santoshpur near Jadavpur in south Kolkata has been arrested by the police on the basis of the complaint lodged at Bidhannagar South police station.
Police sources informed that the 24-year-old woman, a resident of Haltu in Kasba, had boarded the bus from Ultadanga to Ruby crossing on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass at around 9.15 pm
in the night.
The arrested person also boarded the bus from the same spot to travel to Santoshpur.
On the way, the passenger allegedly molested her and the woman raised an alarm on reaching Chingrighata crossing. She informed the other passengers.
He was caught immediately by other passengers and handed over to Bidhannagar South police.
In a separate incident of theft at AH Block in Salt Lake, the East Bidhannagar Police station arrested four persons. Awadhesh Kumar Sinha had lodged a complaint on May 7 alleging theft of three mobile phones,
a laptop, a television, a tab, two expensive watches and cash worth Rs 7,000.
The arrested persons Pintu Das of Hingalganj, Bablu Mondal and Gopal Ghosh of Mahishbathan and Dipankar Mondal of Kolkata Leather Complex in South 24 Parganas.
