One person was killed while two others were injured when a truck lost control and rammed into another truck from behind.
The incident occurred near Ullas More in Burdwan on National Highway 2. The deceased has been identified as the driver of the truck that hit the other truck. The injured persons are believed to be helpers of the truck. The incident had caused huge traffic jam on the National Highway in the morning. After being informed about the incident, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The body of the driver was trapped inside the vehicle due to the intensity of the accident. The police and local people tried to remove the body of the truck driver but failed to do so. Later, the body was removed with the help of a crane. The body was sent to the Malda Medical College and Hospital for the post-mortem examination.
The other two are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Their condition is stated to be serious. The local residents told the police that the truck was at a high speed when it rammed into another truck from behind. They also told the police that the accident happened when one truck stopped at the signal near Ullasmore. The driver of the other truck could not control the vehicle and hit the loaded truck.
Police are yet to confirm the exact reason of the accident. They are investigating if there was any technical problem. Police are not ruling out the possibility of the driver being in an inebriated state. After the accident, the local residents alleged that police fail to check over speeding vehicles on the National Highway as a result of which, accidents have become an everyday phenomenon in the area.
