Kolkata: A woman has been arrested by Bidhannagar South police station on Tuesday for allegedly cheating while purchasing gold ornaments at a jewellery shop in Salt Lake.
According to police, the accused identified as Shukla Paul of Duttabad went to one jewellery shop located at GC block
during Dhanteras.
She told one of the salespersons she would give gold ornaments instead of cash for a new gold chain. She produced four gold bangles marked as 'Hall Mark' jewellery.
Paul then exchanged the bangles and took a gold chain worth approximately Rs 1.32 lakh and left the shop.
Later, on suspicion, some staff checked the bangles thoroughly and found them to be fake. But as they did not have her address, the authorities of the shop could not trace her.
On Tuesday, Paul returned to the same jewellery shop with the intention to cheat again.
On seeing her, some of the salespersons recognised her and informed
their superiors.
They tactically dealt with the situation and kept on talking with Paul until the
police arrived.
After cops arrived, the shop authority narrated the whole incident. She was immediately detained.
Later, the manager of the jewellery shop identified as Amit Malakar lodged a written complaint at Bidhnnagar South police station and Paul was arrested on charges of cheating (420 IPC) and criminal breach of
trust (406 IPC).
She was produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's (ACJM) Court, Bidhannagar, on Wednesday and was sent to 4-day
police custody.
The sleuths are interrogating her to recover the stolen ornaments.
