The Calcutta High Court on Friday quashed the anticipatory bail plea of the Jessop owner Pawan Ruia.

Ruia, who was arrested from his residence in Delhi and at present is in the custody of the Crime
Investigation Department (CID), approached the Court seeking anticipatory bail in four cases related to the incidents of fire and theft in Jessop factory.

There was also a case in connection with theft in Dunlop factory that was also owned by Ruia.

On Friday the Court quashed the plea in connection with all the four cases. Thus, the probe in all the cases will continue.

Ruia’s expectation of moving out of CID’s custody had ended on Tuesday itself when Justice Joymalya Bagchi had directed the CID to continue with the probe in connection with the incidents of fire in Jessop factory.

Ruia had moved to the Court praying stay of criminal proceeding against him in connection with the cases related to the incidents of fire and he had stated that he was not involved with the functioning of Jessop for the past few years.

The Court had also asked the Railways which has given materials worth Rs 50 crore to manufacture railway coaches, to visit the factory and inspect to prepare a report in this connection.

According to the legal experts, Ruia had moved to the Court pleading anticipatory bail in connection
with four other cases considering that the CID may tag the cases while probing into the cases which were lodged in connection with the incidents of fire.

The experts said that with the order of the Court that came on Friday, Ruia is not expected to get bail soon.

He will be in the custody of the CID till December 25 and he will be again produced before the Court on completion of the term of his CID custody.
