New Delhi: In an attempt to strengthen its infrastructure, the Northern Railways has added another feather in its cap by doubling a 22-km long section from Khatauli to Muzaffarnagar in connection with the Meerut City-Muzaffarnagar rail line doubling on the Ghaziabad-Saharanpur section of the Delhi Division.
The new stretch of doubled line is a part of the larger doubling project being undertaken by Northern Railways on the Delhi-Meerut-Sahranpur stretch of rail lines, which is set to ease travel for commuters and goods alike.Commissioner of Railway Safety in the Northern Circle, SK Pathak on Wednesday conducted an intensive inspection on the new section of the line along with a speed test on it. The trial train successfully ran at a speed of 120 km/hr, clocking a top speed as high as 140 km/hr.
Pathak expressed his satisfaction over the construction quality of the new doubled line and consent to run trains on it at running speed up to 110 km/hr has been granted to the Northern Railways.
This new addition to the rail lines will come as a relief for a large number of residents in one of the important sugar-producing regions in the country.
The doubling work completion and the start of regular train services on the 22km-long doubled line are set to facilitate smooth and timely operations of goods trains as well as passenger trains.
