The Kolkata Police on Monday introduced Cellular Mobile News Gathering Unit for live telecast of an incident to its control room.
Senior officers can also monitor a situation from their offices using the system. Surajit Kar Purakayastha, commissioner of police, on Monday inaugurated the unit at Allen Park. A policeman will rush to a spot with digital video camera and officers from control room can view the live telecast of an incident on a television set. The unit will be helpful to tackle mainly a law and order situation.
He said there was a requirement of around eight video cameras. Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’ Brien allotted an amount for the project from MPLAD fund.
