Kolkata: Once again accusing the BJP of attempting to destabilise Bengal by various ways and means, Trinamool Congress on Friday stated that Mofakkerul Islam, who was arrested in connection with the Kaliachak incident, was a BJP agent and he was utilised by the saffron party to orchestrate the incident.
Claiming that Mofakkerul was an AIMIM leader and 2021 candidate, TMC stated that BJP is running a full-scale operation to destabilise Bengal. “Mastermind behind the hostage situation. BJP is running a full-scale operation to destabilise Bengal through their multi-layered agents. Bengal has identified every player. Bengal has connected every dot,” Trinamool Congress wrote on X.
Mofakkerul Islam was arrested at Bagdogra Airport by the West Bengal police on Friday while he was trying to flee the state. He previously contested the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections as a candidate for the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) from the Itahar Constituency. An advocate by profession, he has been described as the alleged mastermind behind the Malda incident.
The ruling party also alleged that there were three BJP agents who were involved in the incident, including Mofakkerul.
“These are the three @BJP4India agents who orchestrated the unrest in Malda: Jayant Kant – Police Observer of Mothabari, Malda. He is the husband of a senior BJP leader from Bihar. Maulana Muhammad Shahjahan Ali Qadri — ISF candidate from Mothabari,” TMC wrote on X.
