siliguri: “The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and CPI(M) have together and launched a conspiracy against the Trinamool Congress TMC). They are spreading false information about our party. However, they will not be able to do any damage,” said Papiya Ghosh, the President of Darjeeling District Trinamool Congress (plains) in a news conference on Sunday at the district Trinamool Party office in Siliguri.

Papiya Ghosh said: “The BJP, Congress and CPI(M) are jointly trying to defame our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress-led state government only for political reasons. They are spreading false information that the state government is not doing anything for the people of North Bengal, whereas the truth is that the Central government is not releasing funds for the state, only because West Bengal does not tow the BJP line.”

The district president alongwith Bedabrata Dutta, district spokesperson of TMC, Nirjal Dey, the district INTTUC president along with other TMC leaders criticised the BJP and other Opposition parties.

“The Central government tried to stop the fund for the mid-day meal scheme, for which they raised false allegations of corruption. They had sent 71 Central teams to inspect. They visited the Dooars, Hills and different parts of the state but could not come up with anything. This is nothing but a political vendetta,” she added.

The TMC has alleged the resurrection of the “Siliguri Model” whereby the BJP, Congress and the CPI(M) together have forged a tacit understanding in an attempt to dethrone the TMC.

Incidentally “Siliguri Model” was a term coined following the 2009 and 2015 civic polls in Siliguri where a tacit understanding between the Left and Congress resulted in the halting of TMC’s advance despite the TMC and Congress having a pre-poll alliance. With this model, the allied party won several elections against the TMC.
