Sundarini Naturals all set to launch 15 sweets from different parts of state
The sweet-loving Bengalis staying in Kolkata and its adjoining areas can now satiate their cravings of the famous sweets from different parts of the state with Sundarini Naturals all set to introduce at least 15 such special sweets in its outlets soon.
The initiative, christened as ‘Biswa Bangla Jelar Mishti’, is aimed at giving Kolkatans the taste of a plethora of sweets under one umbrella and at the same time, revive some that are on the verge of extinction.
Motichur laddu from Bishnupur (Bankura ), gupo sandesh from Guptipara (Hooghly), chamcham from Belacoba (Jalpaiguri), monohara from Janai (Hooghly), chanabora from Murshidabad, sitabhog and mihidana from Burdwan, peda from Chatna (Bankura), mecha sandesh from Beliatore (Bankura), sada bonde from Kamarpukur (Hooghly), posto kadam (Malda), sarbhaja and sarpuria from Krishnanagar (Nadia), kansat from Malda and langcha from Shaktigarh (Burdwan) will soon be available at 11 outlets of Sundarini located at Raghunathpur on VIP Road, Kolkata Airport, Howrah Rail station, Mishti Hub near New Town Eco Park, Alipore Police Court, Alipore Zoo, Rajarhat (Hatishala), Kolkata High Court, Behala Sakuntala Park, Alipore Jail Museum and Anderson Club in Rabindra Sarobar.
The products that are in the pipeline are muger jilapi from Debra, West Midnapore and babarsa from Khirpai in the same district.
“Our research and development (R&D) team visited different districts and gained a detailed knowledge of the technique for manufacturing. Then trial and error was done at our plant located near a private hospital at Ruby crossing near Kasba and now we have achieved perfection in production of these sweets,” a senior official of Sunderban Cooperative Milk and Livestock Producers Ltd (SCMLP) that sells its products under the brand name Sundarini Naturals said.
The Sunderban affairs department had allocated Rs 5 crore to SCMLP for supporting its various initiatives and a portion of this fund was utilised for automation of its plant at Kasba.
Sundarini is the brainchild of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, which was rolled out to empower the women of Sunderbans in 2015.
Apart from a plethora of traditional Bengali sweets, various snacks, savouries, dahi, paneer, organic cow ghee, organic wild Sunderban honey are sold under the brand. “Another 10 outlets will be opened up by the end of this financial year,” the official added.
