In a bid to further develop infrastructure in the districts, the state health department is in the process of setting up community health centres across Bengal to ensure better health care in the remote areas.

The health department in a recent order sanctioned funds for this purpose. West Bengal Medical Service Corporation (WBMSC) has been assigned to carry out the job. Preparation for the model architectural plan, elevation and drawing of the buildings has been going on.

The department is setting up two community health centres in East Midnapore and East Burdwan each at an estimated cost of Rs 11 crore. The department has already given administrative approval for the construction of two community health centres.

An order has been issued recently in this regard stating that one centre will be set up at Nandigram III block in East Midnapore while the other one will be constructed at Raina I block of East Burdwan. District Magistrate will be the nodal officer for the project. A monitoring team will visit the work site periodically to review the quality of work.

The Mamata Banerjee government after coming to power laid enormous strength on the enhancement of health infrastructure in rural areas.

In a bid to further strengthen the health infrastructure in the semi-urban and rural areas, the state Health department is set to upgrade the existing health sub-centres into Su-Swasthya Kendras.

State government has allotted a fund of Rs 29.75 crore in the initial phase so that serious patients can be treated at the upgraded health facilities.

The state government has been in the process of developing integrated health management systems which will not only look into the government sector but will also cater to the private sectors through an integrated system where health registries, digital depositories, information relating to the referrals will be available, officials added.

It will help to handle situations through an intelligent and smart approach and thereby bringing more transparency and efficiency into the system.
