Raiganj: Protesting the deletion of names from the electoral roll during the Special Intensive Revision process, residents put up roadblocks at Purba Kashimpur under Hemtabad police station in North Dinajpur district on Wednesday.
The agitated villagers blocked a PWD road, leading to heavy traffic congestion in the area for several hours. Commuters faced significant inconvenience as vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road.
The situation, however, returned to normal after police intervened and assured the protesters that their grievances would be taken up with the district election authorities.
Manjur Alam, a resident of the area, alleged that despite his family members’ names being present in the electoral roll, his name was removed without any valid reason.
He claimed that around 130 names out of 1,410 voters in the Purba Kashimpur booth had been deleted despite having proper documents.
Echoing similar concerns, Muktar Ali, a high school teacher, said: “I have been serving as a presiding officer in previous elections, yet my name has been removed. We will hold a larger movement if our issue is not resolved soon.”
