Kolkata: In a successful action, cops of Jhargram Police District apprehended two robbers and recovered gold jewellery worth about Rs 2 crore on Monday night in Jamboni area.
According to sources, on Monday night, the Jhargram Police received information from the Jharkhand Police that three miscreants were fleeing after robbing a jewellery shop in Chakulia and moving towards the Jamboni Police Station area. Accordingly, Jhargram Police started monitoring the CCTV footage and spotted a motorcycle with three riders. Immediately, the patrolling van of Jamboni Police Station led by an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) was asked to
intercept the motorcycle.
Around 8:50 pm, police spotted the motorcycle coming and directed the rider to stop but the motorcyclist managed to bypass the police van. After almost one-kilometer of chasing, cops intercepted the motorcycle. One of the pillion riders was caught by the police while the other two fled. From his possession the stolen jewellery was recovered. After a while, another accused was arrested from a nearby forest. However, the motorcyclist managed to flee.
During initial questioning, cops came to know that the duo identified as Niranjan Gour Tatanagar in Jharkhand and Md. Rafik, a resident of Aurangabad in Bihar along with their other partner in crime had a plan to reach Tatanagar through Bengal’s Jharkhand and Purulia
districts to evade naka checking in Jharkhand.
