BALURGHAT: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was critically injured in an accidental firing from his own rifle on Friday morning at the Gobindapur border outpost in the Hili sector.
The injured jawan, identified as 24-year-old Rahul Singh, was initially admitted to Balurghat Hospital. However, as his condition deteriorated, hospital sources confirmed that he was referred to a higher medical facility for advanced treatment. According to BSF sources, the incident occurred while Singh was on patrol duty at the Gobindapur border. Reportedly, due to negligence, a bullet was discharged from his rifle, piercing through his lower back and exiting from his abdomen. As of the latest reports, Singh has been airlifted to an advanced medical centre for treatment.
South Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Chinmay Mittal stated: “We have received information about the incident and an investigation is underway.”
