Kolkata: Rivaling the rivals the complexity and intrigue of any gripping crime thriller, the elaborate scheme to assassinate Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar was plotted at least four to five months ago.

The intricate plan was meticulously devised in January in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh and involved engaging the services of a local butcher, orchestrating a honeytrap and enticing the politician to Kolkata under the guise of medical treatment, informed the state CID probe officers, on Friday.

The unnerving details came to light after the CID arrested a man identified as Jihad Hawaladar, working as a butcher in Mumbai, for the alleged murder of Azim, who went missing from Kolkata on May 13, on Thursday night from Bongaon.

Hawaladar was produced at the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Barasat and remanded to 12 days police custody.

Reportedly, the 3 suspects who were picked up in Bangladesh were remanded to 8-day police custody by a Bangladesh court.

Meanwhile, Hawaladar, a Bangladeshi citizen, admitted to being part of the crime during questioning.

“It’s unthinkable, the way Azim’s body was mutilated and then skinned to hide his identity. The flesh and the bones were segregated and then chopped into smaller pieces before they were washed to remove blood before being mixed with turmeric powder and packed in smaller black plastic bags,” stated officials.

Some parts of the body, probably the skull and long bones, were cut using a chopper and then put in a trolley and disposed of.

Police claimed that Azim’s body was taken inside the bathroom and chopped.

Probe also revealed that the MP’s friend, a US citizen, had paid around Rs 5 crore to those involved in the crime, it was learnt.
