Kolkata: Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Trinamool Congress (TMC) has begun adopting strategies for campaigning which include laying more emphasis on social media, highlighting the party’s history and the development work that has been carried out in West Bengal.

The party held a meeting with its workers in the city on Sunday under the banner ‘TMC Fam Conclave’.

Several senior party leaders spoke on the upcoming strategies that will be adopted for the 2024 Lok Sabha poll campaign where Trinamool chairperson Mamata Banerjee, could be projected as the face of India’s next Prime Minister.

Most of the speakers focused on how to better utilise social media to reach out to the people and highlight the party’s works in Bengal which includes the development that has been carried out in the state since 2011 when the Trinamool, led by Mamata Banerjee came to power after dislodging the Left Front government from rule.

Senior leader Firhad Hakim said that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scared of anyone then it is that woman who lives in Kalighat and wears slippers and fights for the rights of the people.

He said that the party’s senior leaders were initially flummoxed when they witnessed how the BJP was harnessing the power of social media but then its party workers and leaders from the younger generation came ahead in helping TMC launch strong campaigns on social media.

Hakim said that in days to come social media will have a big role in letting the country know the contributions of Mamata Banerjee who came from a humble background but managed to uproot the 34 years of misrule by the Left Front government in Bengal.

Party insiders believe that it is about time that Mamata is projected as the next PM face and believes that her “humble image with the enormous struggle” will be the USP in the campaign.

Asked if projecting her could deal a blow to the Opposition alliance of 26 parties (INDIA) which has been focusing more on unity than projecting a particular face, the insider said that it is very apparent that Mamata Banerjee is the preferred face among the INDIA bloc for the next PM because of her leadership qualities and the guts to speak the truth on the face.

However, Mamata had said on several occasions that she is not aiming for any particular chair. Alluding to BJP, she had said that her priority and sole objective is to dislodge an authoritarian power from the Centre.

Meanwhile, party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh asked workers to start highlighting trivia on their social media pages where they can share information about the rise and struggle of TMC against the then Left Front government. He instructed that significant moments which are considered important milestones for TMC need to be also highlighted.
