The police said that the victims, belonging to a family from the Capital, met with the accident when their vehicle hit another in an attempt to overtake each other. Notably, the accident took place despite all the tall claims by authorities regarding the introduction of adequate measures to avoid mishaps on the 165 kilometre long high-speed corridor connecting the national Capital to Agra.
The police further revealed that the accident took place around 6:30 am about 15 kilometre away from the Zero point on the Greater Noida-Agra carriageway, when seven members of the family from Vikashpuri were on their way to Agra in a Maruti car. When they were nearing the Chhapargarh village, the driver of the car tried to overtake other motorists. In the process, he did not spot a mini truck and rammed into it. The impact of the accident was so high that both the vehicles were damaged completely and the occupants suffered grievous injuries.
The passers-by informed the police and a rescue team took the victims to the ICU of Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida, where they were identified as Shaiely, Poonam, Shohanpal, Devendra, Mahesh Chandra, Kumkum and Jeetpal. With multiple fractures, Shailey (2), Poonam (25) and Shohalpal (65) succumbed to their injuries, while the rest are recuperating. “We have sent the bodies for post-mortem and have informed the other members of their family. As we have not received any written complaint, we have not registered case,” said a senior police official.
