Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Power and Energy Minister Kumara Jayakodi survived a no-confidence motion moved by the opposition in parliament on Friday.
This was the first no-trust motion against the current National People’s Power government of Anura Kumara Dissanayake which was elected on a strong anti-corruption stance in 2024.
The no-confidence motion was defeated with just 49 votes in favour and 153 against.
Jayakodi was accused of causing a massive loss to the state on purchasing coal and endangering national energy security by
misappropriating the state procurement process.
