Tenth floor of complex catches fire

A massive fire broke out at the 10th floor of a building in West Delhi’s Netaji Subhash Place on Sunday afternoon. No casualties have been reported. Meanwhile, people posted images of billowing clouds of smoke on social media. The incident was reported to the fire department at around 4.25 pm when the security guards saw smoke coming out from a ventilation panel on the tenth floor of the building. He raised an alarm and immediately a call was made to the fire department. The fire department said they received the call for the fire around 4:25 pm and dispatched 22 vehicles to bring the fire under control. “By around 7:30 pm officials said they had completely doused the fire, “The situation is under control. There are no casualties,” a fire officer Rajesh Pawar said. The complex, Pearls Business Park, lies close to a usually crowded Netaji Subhash Place Metro station near Wazirpur bus depot. According to fire department, early investigations suggest that the fire broke out in the generator compartment on the 13th floor due to a malfunction. Firemen on a hydraulic platform struggled to douse the flames for more than two hours. 

The area has several multi-storey shopping complexes and is crowded with shoppers both on weekdays and weekends. It is also a home to several banks and corporate offices. Being a Sunday, the office was closed with just few people who managed to exit the building safely. Police is yet to be determined.
