Huskies not for hot climates

Even though a dog may be close to and protective of everyone in his human family pack, oftentimes a special bond is established with just one member of the household. While this is typically the person who provides the most time, care and attention, it's not always the case..

The dog that bonds to one particular member of the household is typically happier to see that person than anyone else, viewing the favored individual as provider, leader, as well as companion. This usually means lowering himself in this person's presence and showing body language like a rear in the air, wiggling body and flattened ears.

Even if you believe that your dog just isn't feeling a spark between you two, don't fret! You can certainly help strengthen your bond by taking a hands-on role in feeding, offering treats, giving physical attention and by simply being present. Never yell at or physically discipline your dog, and be sure to always reward him and praise him when he gives you attention.

Often (but not always), a lack of bonding is due to lack of attention on the part of the human. If attention is paid to the pup, another cause may be behind the lack of bonding. For example, the person plays too rough, only provides attention when he wants it and ignores the pup when he seeks attention, or he may possibly remind the pup of an abusive individual from his past. If so, be patient and continue to provide your pup plenty of love and care - your bond should eventually strengthen with time.

Most dogs will eat anything and everything without a moment's hesitation. So when your dog doesn't show interest in his food and walks away you need to be concerned.

If he has lost weight recently or develops vomiting or diarrhea as well, it is time to make a visit to the veterinarian. Problems with teeth and/or problems in the mouth can make eating difficult for even the hungriest of dogs. Check the mouth for sores, growths, bad teeth or foreign objects that might be causing pain or discomfort for your dog. Tick fever is a reason. Get a blood test immediately. Dehydration is another reason.

Or it could be that he doesn't like the food any more. Change it. If you are feeding scraps under the table then your dog will become finicky about his own food.  Table scraps and excessive treats only cause weight gain and don't provide balanced nutrition. Your dog needs to eat nutritionally-balanced food in proper amounts every day to maintain health.

Check the dog food you are offering to make sure it's not spoiled or out of date. This may be a reason why your dog suddenly doesn't want to eat his food. Make sure the food you are offering is safe, nutritious, and consistent. Don't keep changing the food constantly because this can upset your dog's digestive system. If your dog won't eat dry dog food no matter what, there are a few tricks to try that might entice him to eat. You can try another brand or flavor of food that might taste better. Mixing in a tablespoon or two of canned food to dry kibbles may provide a flavor boost. Canned food can be warmed slightly in the microwave, or warm water or broth can be spooned over dry food to give it some warmth and extra aroma.

Taking your dog for a good walk before mealtime can also help increase his appetite. If you can schedule a daily walk around a regular feeding time, this will help your dog to associate the walk with the upcoming mealtime. Staying out of the area while your dog eats and giving him a quiet, safe place to eat alone, away from distractions or competition from other pets, may be helpful

Exotic breeds such as Siberian Huskies and Saint Bernards are not suitable for hot climatic conditions. They are appropriate for cold climates and can withstand temperatures as cold as -51 degrees C.  Huskies require constant exercise, which is impossible in hot weather. The heat causes chronic breathing and skin problems, tick fevers, dehydration.
