To avert any untoward incident in view of the presence of supporters and lawyers of Kanhaiya Kumar at Delhi high court on Tuesday in connection with Kumar’s hearing for a bail plea, Delhi Police have made elaborate security arrangements at the Delhi high court.
Senior police officials of the New Delhi district confirmed that apart from the deployment of the local district police, Security Unit of the Delhi Police has been deployed at all the important gates of the Delhi high court premises.
“We can’t share the arrangement details due to security reasons but one can say that the measures taken this time are fool-proof,” said a senior police official.
On February 15, clashes erupted in the Patiala House Courts premises when the JNU president Kanhaiya Kumar was taken to be produced before a magistrate. Arrested by the Delhi Police from the campus for allegedly participating in an event in support of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, in which anti-India slogans were allegedly raised, chaos was unleashed by a group of about 100 lawyers who not only started shouting anti-JNU slogans but also beat up several mediapersons accusing them of wrong reporting.
Meanwhile, a day after this incident, on February 17, lawyers thrashed Kanhaiya Kumar in the presence of policemen in which he was injured. Currently, Kanhaiya is in judicial custody till March 2.
Keeping in mind the attacks on Kanhaiya Kumar, police had ensured that special arrangements were made for former DU professor SAR Geelani arrested on sedition charges in connection with an event on February 9 at the Press Club.
He was secretly produced in the DSF office in Chanakyapuri after which he was sent to judicial custody.
