Delhi deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to approve Genetically Modified Mustard without consulting farmers, scientists and state government.
In a letter written to the Prime Minister he has also registered his protest against experiments being carried out by scientists of Delhi University without the No Objection Certificate (NOC) of Delhi government.
“In her election manifesto, BJP had also promised not to approve GM crops but why the same party is going to approve these crops in such a hurry,” said Sisodia in the letter written and released to media on Tuesday.
“I came to know through media reports that your government is going to approve GM Mustard on February 5. I want to tell you, such crops will pose danger to our fields, farmers, food, health and environment.
“It’s unfortunate that the government is secretly planning to approve such a matter associate with the lives of crores of people,” he added.
