The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Delhi Police have conducted a polygraph test on six persons in connection to the murder mystery of Sunanda Pushkar. All the persons on whom the test was conducted are closely associated with her husband and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, police said on Monday.
The six persons includes Tharoor’s friend Sanjay Dewan, his driver Bajrangi, the domestic help — Narayan Singh, Sunil <g data-gr-id="81">Taraku</g>, Sunanda’s friend and two <g data-gr-id="78">custom</g> officers — Vikas Ahlawat and SK Sharma. On May 20, the court had granted permission to conduct polygraph tests on three persons including Sanjay Dewan, Bajrangi and <g data-gr-id="82">Narayn</g> Singh.
“We are investigating the case and during the probe, whatever needs to be done will be done. So far, we have already carried out polygraph tests on six people. If there is any requirement, we will conduct further tests. The reports of the tests are awaited,” BS Bassi, Delhi Police Commissioner said.
When the suspects were questioned, the lawyers of the suspects were also present in the room where the test was conducted. According to sources, the suspects were asked over 100 questions related to crucial facts, including the injury marks found on Pushkar’s body.
The messages recovered from Sunanda Pushkar’s mobile phone were also part of the questions, said the officer.
Three of the suspects — Sanjay Dewan, Bajrangi and Narayan Singh were present at Hotel Leela Palace just before her death. Dewan cancelled his trip to Mumbai and came to Leela hotel on January 17. After finding her sleeping, he did not bother to wake her up, instead he kept on sitting in the room.
During interrogation, he couldn’t explain why he preferred Dr Rajat Mohan from Patel Nagar to the in-house doctor of Leela Hotel who could come in at a short notice. He also didn’t give a proper explanation for sending driver Bajrangi to bring Dr Rajat Mohan even without meeting Sunanda in the room.
“During the polygraph test, all the suspects also faced questions related to the IPL controversy, the couple’s trip to Dubai, and the constant fights between them,” a police officer said on condition of anonymity.
Pushkar, who married Tharoor in 2010, was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a room at the Leela Palace Hotel in Delhi on January 17, 2014. Police registered a murder case on January 1, 2015. Prior to her death, Pushkar was embroiled in a spat with Pakistani journalist Tarar, whom she accused of stalking her husband.
