Police bust pulse hoarding racket in Outer Delhi, seal warehouses

According to the police, on February 11, a special team received a tip-off about hoarding of pulses by some traders in go-downs in Outer Delhi. Based on this information, police conducted raids. 

When one of the owners, Anil Kumar, failed to produce valid documents to show why he had stored the grains, he was arrested. Meanwhile, another person identified as Sanjay Kumar Bansal too was arrested on charges of hoarding pulses in his factory in the same area.

Food and Supplies Department of NCT of Delhi was also informed accordingly from where teams came to the spots and prepared inventory of the stocked pulses in the presence of the owners of the firms, said police.

“We have sealed the warehouse and have asked the department of food and civil supplies to conduct a thorough check. A case under sections of the Essential Commodities Act have been registered against the owner,” said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had hoarded the pulses to sell them later at double price. According to the police, raids will be conducted at other warehouses as well. Senior police officers have not denied the involvement of government officials who keep a check on these godowns periodically.
