PESTS OR PETS?

Update: 2016-11-20 15:40 GMT
What purpose do pests like cockroaches serve?

There are 4000 varieties of cockroach of which only 10 are considered pests. They are omnivore scavengers which clean up our environment and help recycle the organic litter that would accumulate if it were not decomposed by organisms which include cockroaches. If they were to become extinct the world would stop working.

They serve to recycle human waste. If they did not exist the pile up of human waste and thrown away food would be so large that we would die in the filth. They turn all the leaves and paper into soil. Furthermore, they serve as food for small mammals, birds, amphibians and lizards. Many animals eat them and these would also become extinct. And so would the animals that prey on those animals and so on.

What purpose do ants serve?

Ants play an important role in the environment. Ants turn and aerate the soil, allowing water and oxygen to reach plant roots. They clean up dead organisms as scavengers.

Some species kill and eat other insects Ants are also important food sources for some lizards, other insects, anteaters, and other organisms. Ants defend plants, pollinate flowers, and disperse seeds.

Is the garden lizard poisonous? Is it safe to keep them as pets?

Lizards are not poisonous. There are only two poisonous lizards in the world, and neither of them injects poison through fangs like a snake, and both of them live in remote areas. Lizards are more afraid of you than you are of them. Leave them alone and they won’t bother you. Lizards will run as soon as you chase them. They will attack only if they feel threatened or if you attempt to catch them.

But even if one “attacks,” by biting in self-defence, the bite is less painful than getting pinched with a hair clip and has no poison in it. Relax, enjoy your free, organic insect controllers. They are a great deal more harmless than the bugs they eat! Do not attempt to make pets out of them. They should not be caged or put into boxes and they certainly will not learn tricks or respond to you.

Domestic animals, such as cows and pigs, and laboratory rats would not exist were it were not for our bringing them into existence in the first place for our purposes. So why shouldn’t we treat them as our resources?

Just because we force the existence of these animals by artificial insemination and forcible breeding doesn’t mean we can treat them as we want to. We are responsible for the existence of our children but that doesn’t mean that we can treat them as resources. Do you eat your children ? It is human arrogance to simply think of these animals as resources to exploit.

Why does my male dog hump other male dogs?

Humping behaviour in dogs is not sexual unless there’s a female in heat and they’re breeding. Dogs of both sexes hump other dogs as a matter of play, or even for asserting their dominance over the other dog. This is normal.

Is it legal to have monkeys as pets?

No, it is absolutely illegal to keep monkeys and other primates as pets under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972. Such activity constitutes an offence under the act and there are strict guidelines and punishments for it as prescribed by sections 40 (2), 50 (1) (c), 50 (3), 50 (4), 50 (5) and 51 (1) of the wildlife protection act 1972.

According to these sections, an offender can be detained or arrested on suspicion, even without an arrest warrant and the animal can be confiscated. First-time offenders shall get imprisoned for up to three years or pay a fine for up to 25,000 Rupees or both.
