In the wake of the recent earthquake in Nepal, Noida authorities that are grappling over flood, safety in high-rises besides the area being declared as an earthquake prone zone, is all set to come out with a state-of-the-art District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
The authorities on Friday announced to establish a fool-proof centre to tackle calamities in and around the district along with an institute for training purposes. The announcement was made by the NOIDA officials after a meeting with the District Administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other departments.
The officials informed that <g data-gr-id="26">formation</g> of the DDMA has been done under which a centre will be opened at Noida’s Phase-II area. The centre will have advanced equipment, machines and the required tools.
A team of NDRF will permanently camp at the centre which will ensure running of the centre properly. Apart from this, a training institute will also come up in Greater Noida where training will be given to NGOs, Resident’s Welfare Associations (RWAs), police personnel, self-help groups and local residents.
The DDMA, which will be monitored directly by the authority and the District administration, will have a resource directory containing details of not only the district but also neighbouring areas.
Rama Raman, Chairman and CEO of both Noida and Greater Noida authority, said the authority wants a foolproof mechanism to handle catastrophes.
He said the DDMA will have all kinds of facilities for tackling disasters. “We have announced a disaster management centre for the city. Apart from this, we have also decided to implement building by-laws strictly and conduct surveys of the entire area so that we can identify unsafe structures. The builders, which are involved in the construction of <g data-gr-id="33">high rise</g> buildings, have been asked to carry out construction activities under the supervision of a structure engineer,” Raman said.
