An overhead water reservoir with a capacity of 5 million gallon was inaugurated at Mukundapur area which will supply drinking water to around 70,000 people residing in ward number 103, 104 and 109 under Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
The project has come up on 1.44 acre land with a budget of Rs 20 crore. It took two-and-half years to complete the project.
Dhapa water treatment plant will supply drinking water to the reservoir.
While inaugurating a pumping station and the reservoir on Sunday, the Municipal Affairs Minister Firhad Hakim said the civic board successfully provides pure drinking water at every corner of the city. Major works were also completed to improve the infrastructure of drinking water supply. These projects were stalled during the Left Front rule, Hakim said.
The capacity of Garden Reach water treatment plant has been increased from 37 to 185 million gallon and Dhapa Jai Hind water treatment plant has come up with a capacity of 35 million gallon during
the period of present civic board, said Mayor Sovan Chatterjee.
