A 50-year-old doctor went missing from his residence at North Delhi’s Timarpur. Three months later, an unidentified dead body found at a cowshed in UP’s Badaun district on March 24, was identified as the doctor’s. The doctor was found brutally murdered with his face smashed beyond possible identification and bones crushed with a heavy timber.
Last week, the police arrested one of his neighbours, who held a grudge against the doctor for a reported ‘bad debt’ worth around Rs 9 lakh, for the doctor’s alleged murder, police said on Thursday.
The doctor, identified as Rishi Pal, worked at his own clinic and lived alone at a rented accommodation in Gopalpur village area of North Delhi’s Timarpur.
<g data-gr-id="23">Pal</g>, who belonged to a village near Meerut, was unmarried. On March 23, he went absconding and the matter was reported to the police by his family after around six days.
“When he could not be tracked by the local police, the case was transferred to the special staff of North district,” said Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North).
Throughout the investigation, Pal’s neighbour and friend Umesh – who is a mason by profession and a permanent resident of Timarpur – purportedly tried to help police officials. Meanwhile, the special staff had coordinated with police teams of neighbouring states and started collecting information – including data regarding unidentified dead bodies.
“The team came across a particular FIR numbered 103/2015 registered at the <g data-gr-id="27">Gunnaur</g> police station at Badaun in connection with a murder case. On investigating further, it turned out to be Rishi Pal,” said Verma.
