The UPSTF (Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force) is set to acquire an Artificial Intelligence-based Criminal Data Creation and Retrieval System, following a recent review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The system will allow the force to have complete profiles of criminals with just one click, enhancing action against crimes in the state.
“The aim of the UPSTF behind this is to enhance action against crimes and criminals in the state,” Government spokesman said here on Wednesday. The UPSTF plans to establish the AI-based system at a cost of Rs three crore, with tenders already issued and four companies expressing interest in installing it. The system will provide tools for matching face, voice, and method of crime, enabling the identification of criminals within seconds.
Chief Minister Adityanath expressed satisfaction with the UPSTF’s action against criminals, including illegal drug traffickers, arms smugglers, exam mafia, fake teachers, and terrorists. The AI-based system aims to expedite the disclosure of incidents and ensure that criminals responsible are swiftly apprehended.
The system, already implemented in Telangana, will help the Uttar Pradesh Police create a comprehensive database of criminals in the state. By integrating criminal databases using artificial intelligence, facial recognition can be performed rapidly, matching faces from the entire record and providing relevant information. In addition to facial recognition, the system will also include voice matching and access to criminal histories.
The AI-based system will greatly assist in identifying individuals involved in criminal activities, such as making threats through virtual calls. By matching voices with millions of voices stored in the database, the system can quickly identify the person responsible.
“Discussions are currently underway with interested companies to incorporate additional features into the AI-based Criminal Data Creation and Retrieval System. The implementation of this system reflects the UPSTF’s commitment to effectively combat crime and ensure the safety and security of Uttar Pradesh,” official said.
