Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of his wife in North-east Delhi’s Seelampur area from Salar in West Bengal on January 19. According to the police, Mohammad Chand hacked his wife, Firoza, in an inebriated state after suspecting her of having an extra-marital affair.

The incident came to light on January 13 when a neighbour went to Firoza’s house to ask for an utensil. However, it was found locked from outside. Police said locals broke open the door and found Firoza lying in a pool of blood.

On the night of January 12, Chand strangled Firoza with a duppata and a chain and also tried to hide her identity by disfiguring her face.

There were bruise marks all over her body. He did all this in front of their two-year-old son, Muskaan, after which he fled with the child, police said on Saturday.
