Water woes for South Kolkata: Drinking water supply to be affected today
Adding to the woes of the Kolkata denizens already suffering from the scorching heat, the supply of drinking water in vast areas of South Kolkata and
southern fringes will be affected on Saturday due to repair work at Garden Reach water supply station.
A valve will be installed and another will be repaired at the Garden Reach water supply station on Saturday. As a result, there will not be any supply of drinking water in Behala, Garden Reach, Jadavpur after 10 am on Saturday which include Boroughs 10, 13, 14 and 15.
In Boroughs VIII, IX, XI, XII and XVI the supply of drinking water will be partially affected. There will not be any supply from Kalighat, Garfa, Chetla, Ranikuthi and Golfgreen booster stations on Saturday. However, the supply will be back to normal from Sunday morning.
KMC engineers said that repairing of the valve was long overdue and it was planned in such a way so that people face minimum hassle. They have also asked people to store water. Repairing will be taken up on a war footing and will be completed on time. KMC has kept water tankers ready to supply drinking water in the most affected areas.
Such major repair work is taking place after several years which will lead to the supply getting affected in almost the entire South Kolkata area.
