Gaznavi bridge and Chandannagar flyover will be given a thorough repair, Firhad Hakim, state Urban development department minister said on Friday.
The state government had engaged RITES to study the condition of all the flyovers after a portion of Vivekananda Road flyover collapsed on March 31, 2016, killing 27 people.
Hakim said RITES had conducted a study and found that the condition of most of the flyovers and bridges like Sealdah flyover, Brabourne Road flyover and some others was fine and only minimum repair was required. Chingrighata flyover is also in fine condition. The department will take up repairs in course of time, he maintained.
Chandannagore flyover and Gaznavi bridge would be given a thorough repair as their condition had deteriorated over the years.
Hakim said the department would follow the report submitted by RITES and would taken up work accordingly.
However, the state government has principally agreed to allow only light to medium vehicles and two wheelers on Vivekananda Road and no heavy vehicles would be allowed. There is no plan to pull down the flyover as cost of demolition would be huge. Hakim said that he would discuss the matter with senior officials of the department and the Chief Minister before taking any final call in the matter.
