Kapil Mishra’s ‘free the tree’ initiative

Update: 2016-02-25 01:17 GMT
Delhi Tourism minister Kapil Mishra has issued orders to “free the tree” in the city from various hoardings and encroachments which besides defacing the trees also sometimes prove fatal for them. The minister has given one month time and requested people to complain him on social media if they notice any violation of the order.

“For Free the Tree, one month has been given to all my departments to comply. Inform me if you see a violation,” said Kapil Mishra. The orders have been issued to the departments under his jurisdiction – Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Tourism, DTTDC, etc. The minister has directed the officers to remove signboards, boards, advertisements, cables, electric wires and high tension wires tied with trees. “Concrete will also be removed to give proper breathing space to the trees,” added Mishra. The orders were issued in pursuance of the directions of the Green Tribunal in 2013.
