Over 500 people holding flats in projects along the Northern Peripheral Road (NPR), also known as the Gurgaon-Dwarka Expressway, held a massive protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Sunday.
The protestors demanded immediate completion of the road which will connect National Highway- 8 with Dwarka. Looking at the history of this project which has already missed over half-a-dozen deadlines since 2007, the Dwarka E-Way seems to be a distant dream for the buyers and investors of residential and commercial projects.
The agitated buyers, raised slogans against the Haryana government and held placards reading “Stop Giving Us Deadlines, Give Us Road” or “Give Us Our Due, The DEW (Dwarka Expressway)”.
Those irked by the delay, have formed a pressure group — DXP Welfare Association, to formally communicate with authorities regarding this matter. “More than 70,000 home buyers have purchased their dream homes in that area.
Some of them have already got the possession of their flats after the delay of two or more years and some are in the process to get their dream homes in the next 3-6 months. However, lack of basic amenities and no road to commute are not letting them live their dreams,” said Pradip Rahi, general secretary, DXP Welfare Association.
Some of the major demands of the DXP Welfare Association include written assurance from National Highways Authority of India and Haryana Urban Development Authority for completion of the remaining 4 km stretch of the total 18 km road called Dwarka Expressway, intervention of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari for expediting the clearance of land litigation which is coming in the way of the Expressway including New Palam Vihar area and a concrete road map on various flyovers and underpasses to be built on the Expressway i.e. crossing at Pataudi Road and Near NH-8.
