Godless and unsure: Geometric panacea to atheism

Update: 2013-11-12 22:48 GMT
Since the majority of atheists are from relatively younger generations who are well versed in the use of computer and who would rather shower godly attributes such as omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence to the collective networks of all computers in the world – the Internet, the possibility is that there may be many happy takers of that headline at face value even though many would not bother to know more about the original theorem put forward by the German Mathematician Kurt Godel in 1931, which is easily accessible on the net.

Sadly, notwithstanding what that misleading, catchy newspaper headlines about the existence of God being proved by two computer scientists suggest, the fact is that it is nothing about the supreme being, but is rather about computer technology reducing the burden of mathematicians. If the tentative confirmation of the existence of Higgs Boson or what is sensationally called ‘the God Particle’ this March 2013, which was initially theorised in 1964, had misleadingly elated your agnostic self something as science proving the existence of God, it should disappoint you  to know that the unceremonious nomenclature of that missing particle in the Standard Model of particle physics was initially meant to be a joke as it was borrowed from the title of the 1993 book by another Nobel Laureate Leander Lenderman. Even Peter Higgs, who shared the Nobel prize for physics this year with the Belgian physicist Francois Englert, distances himself from what an ordinary agnostic or weak at the knees atheist with no advance understanding of physics would like the much applauded scientific term to mean.

It is another matter that some great celebrities from the field of science, who prominently include our own Indian Americans like the MD turned spiritual guru Deepak Chopra and Mani Bhowmik, the man credited with the path breaking discovery of excimer laser whose application in Lasik eye surgery has brought about a revolution in vision treatment, along with hundreds of world renowned scientists would always be there to reaffirm whatever is left of  your re-dwindled spiritual side looking for scientific explanations about the existence of God. While Deepak Chopra has taken to full time preaching about spirituality through writing and lecturing, Mani Bhowmik has written an excellent book, titled, Code Named God in which he has effortlessly explained how the discoveries of modern physics can be reconciled with paths that lead to the scientific understanding about the existence of God, or at least a supreme consciousness which is the one and ultimate source of all creations.

Just in case you did not know, there is an ebook titled, 50 Nobel Laureates and Other Great Scientists Who Believe in God doing rounds on the Internet which is available for free download, which has affirmative quotes about God in one form or another by famous scientists such as, Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, Louise Pasteur, Nicolaus Copernicus, and Michael Faraday, listing 27 Nobel Laureates from the field of Physics and Chemistry who were believers. It names 11 Nobel laureates from literature (Rabindranath Tagore and T S Eliot, among others) and 12 peace prize laureates. But that should not stop a skeptic from his re-assuring doubt since there are considerable numbers of academicians who profess skepticism because of the lack of solid proof, which many want as simply and experimentally as had been first shown to them by their lab technicians in science laboratories during their practical classes at the +2 level. A famous rationalist in India asks for proof of everything first, refusing to give room for anything experiential and observational. The study shows that disbelief in God is as high in the natural science as in the soft sciences and it also shows that such disbelief does not necessarily come from people with some area of expertise, but the same study also reveals an interesting correlation between marital status and number of children with one’s religiosity.

While those who are married and have children are less likely to be atheists, those who cohabit are likely to believe faith as a mere wistful thinking. While the majority of atheists are impermanently disillusioned, which means that their atheism is more on the lips than in the heart and that they may turn to God at some point of time in their life.
