With the arrest of five persons from a gang, who mostly targeted schools, Delhi Police on Friday claimed to have solved as many as 30 cases, including the alleged burglary at south Delhi’s Holy Child Auxilium School in February.

The incident, considered to be the sixth attack on a Christian institution within three months in the national Capital, set the alarm bells ringing, and the Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi was summoned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a briefing.

Bassi was also asked to submit a report on the same to the Union Home Ministry. Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani is also an alumnus of the school, and she visited the institution after the incident. She also spoke to the authorities and ensured a speedy investigation.

The case was solved by the Special Task Force of Delhi Police’s south district. Senior officials maintained that there was no vandalism involved in the incident. The arrested persons were identified as Gaurav (23), Sikander alias Machchhar (21), Dharmender (23), Vikas (21) and Pawan (23).

The Special Task Force team led by inspector Rajender Singh looked into around 105 school burglaries that had taken place in the city in the past few years and zeroed in on a gang led by one Babu <g data-gr-id="26">Bangali</g> who had escaped to south India and in his absence, the gang was led jointly by Gaurav and Pawan.
