Gang of phone snatchers busted, 310 iphones recovered

Delhi Police have busted an international racket of stolen mobile phones with the arrest of eight persons in Maurice Nagar area of North Delhi. 

According to the police, they have recovered 448 high-end mobile phones ( including 310 iphones) worth Rs 2.5 crore within three days. The accused have been identified as Vicky, Nitin Kumar, Pawan, Tarun Kumar, Rajeev Kumar (name changed), Mohit Batra, Rohan and Tarandeep Singh.

According to the police, Vicky, one of the accused, was under police surveillance for mobile snatching and theft cases in the Maurice Nagar area. On April 16, a cop spotted him riding a motorcycle. The cop alerted the local police who then chased him on four motorcycles and finally apprehended him and recovered 10 mobile phones. “During sustained interrogation, he broke down and informed us that he stole mobile phones and gave them to Tarun Kumar, Monu and Rikki who dealt in sale and purchase of stolen phones in Gaffar Market,” said a senior police official.

“Tarun was apprehended from Sarai Rohilla. On the instance of Tarun, a raid was conducted and a person (whose name is withheld by the Delhi Police) was arrested. 328 mobile phones were then recovered from him,” said the official.

According to the police, Tarun also revealed startling facts about how he dealt with the stolen phones throughout the country. 

Moreover, they (his accomplices) supplied parts of iphone in China and Nepal through courier services.

Police said that his accomplices, Rikki and Monu frequented to Nepal where they disposed off the mobile phones. Other members include Mohit Batra, who worked as a receiver of the stolen phones. He owns a counter in Gaffar Market and maintained the operations in other countries while Rajeev maintained the network all over the country. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law at Maurice Nagar police station.
