Fresh trouble is brewing at car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki’s Gurgaon plant as workers’ unions and management have locked horns over the suspension of a union leader for allegedly slapping an engineer at work.
The Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) management has suspended Maruti Suzuki Kamgar Union (MSKU) general secretary Kuldeep <g data-gr-id="22">Janghu</g> for allegedly slapping Sharad Kumar, 27, an engineer at the Gurgaon plant. An internal inquiry against <g data-gr-id="23">Janghu</g> has been ordered. He will remain suspended till the probe report is out.
On Tuesday, union leaders from all four plants of MSIL held a meeting at the plant’s Gurgaon campus and demanded the cancellation of suspension orders against <g data-gr-id="24">Janghu</g>. “<g data-gr-id="25">Janghu</g> has been an active participant during the company’s CSR events and other social activities, but slapping an engineer at work is indiscipline and the company will never tolerate these,” said a company spokesperson.
Sharad Kumar had an argument with his junior Amod Kumar over some work. The matter was reported to the union. <g data-gr-id="20">Janghu</g> reached the site on Monday night and allegedly slapped Sharad.
However, <g data-gr-id="21">Janghu</g> has denied the allegations and blamed the management for the crisis.
