A Facebook post, which went viral in 24 hours, prompted Delhi Police to initiate and inquire into a case of alleged corruption on Monday.
The post was shared by a Delhi-based youth who alleged that a traffic constable demanded a bribe of Rs 1,000 from him near the Zakhira Bridge on June 28 for over-speeding.
In the Facebook post, posted around 4.20 pm on June 28 the youth claimed that he encountered two traffic officials near the Zakhira Bridge, when he was travelling in a car from Old Delhi’s Chawri Bazar to North-west Delhi’s Rampura area. One of the cops, whom he identified as Moin Ali, allegedly flagged him <g data-gr-id="22">andsaid</g> that he could be penalised of Rs 1,500 for over-speeding. However, Ali allegedly offered him a green chit for Rs 1,000. When the youth claimed to have countered him, Ali allegedly abused him verbally.
“This shall be treated as a valid complaint and we shall definitely take action against the traffic official depending upon the findings of an inquiry into the matter,” said Sandeep Goel, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
