The accused, name withheld, committed suicide by jumping in front of a speeding train in Nizamuddin area on late Saturday evening. The accused was unmarried and lived alone.
According to the police, the incident took place on Saturday evening when the victim who resided at the fourth floor of the same building in which the man lived, was returning home.
When she was climbing the stairs, the accused stopped her at the staircase and started talking to her about her studies. The girl knew him and used to pay regards to him. While talking to her, he invited her to come inside his home and offered her snacks and drinks.
In the meantime, the accused swiftly bolted the main door and molested her. When she opposed the act and tried to raise the alarm, he gagged her mouth with his hand and raped her. After that the girl lost consciousness and fell on the floor.
Soon after the incident, the accused fled the spot leaving the main door open. Meanwhile, the girl’s parents started looking for her as she failed to return home after her tuition classes. Her parents also made a call to the tuition teacher who informed them that the girl had left tuition on time.
While coming down, they noticed that the doors of the retired man’s home were wide open and there they found their daughter lying unconscious on the floor. She was bleeding.
Her parents splashed water on her face after which she regained consciousness. She narrated the ordeal and the family made a call to the police and rushed her to the hospital where she underwent medical treatment.
The accused was found missing and a man-hunt was on. In the meantime, the SHO of Sunlight Colony police station got a call from the brother of the accused who informed him that his brother is going to commit suicide as he had raped a minor girl at his residence.
During a man-hunt, his body was found near a railway track in Nizamuddin area. According to the police, after leaving his house, he made a call to his brother and confessed to him about the incident. He was feeling apologetic and guilt ridden and thus committed suicide.
A case under relevant sections of IPC and POCSO Acts was registered in connection with the incident and the girl was counselled by an NGO, police added.
