Priyanka Chopra Jonas has been one of the most recognised and influential Indian stars globally, but her rise in Hollywood didn’t have a roadmap. Recently, the actress opened up about how it was only trial, error and the willingness to learn as she went along to the West.
In a conversation with IANS, the ‘Varanasi’ star admitted that despite being hailed as a trailblazer, she didn’t always know how to preserve her sense of identity while constantly adapting for international audiences. “I don’t know if I did,” she said.
Priyanka said she entered global entertainment without many Indian examples to follow, which meant she had to figure things out independently. “I think I don’t know everything. I don’t claim to know everything. I am learning by myself. There are very few examples, people who had come before me in navigating international waters from India, whose footprints I followed,” she shared.
Speaking about her years of transition between Bollywood and Hollywood, Priyanka said her evolution has been full of unpredictability. “It was just trial and error. I made mistakes and some were good, some were bad and that’s what happens when you’re starting all over again and I think that’s okay,” she said.
According to her, the real challenge wasn’t failure itself but learning to forgive herself when things didn’t go as planned. Being a global public figure also comes with pressure. Priyanka revealed that her emotional steadiness comes from her inner circle. For her, support isn’t about having many people; it’s about having the right ones.
On the work front, she is working with SS Rajamouli, Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran on the upcoming globetrotter, ‘Varanasi’. The movie marks her return to Indian cinema, which is set to hit the theatres in 2027.
