“The government recently gave permission to lay down pipelines in the 237 new unauthorised colonies and we target to complete the work before next summer to minimise dependency on water tankers,” said SS Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of DJB.
The board also claimed to have improved water pressure and quality supplied in another 60 unauthorised colonies and villages. “The improvement in water pressure and water quality was possible due to increased water production in the city,” he added.
Recently, DJB commissioned few long-pending water projects like Narela Underground Reservoir (UGR), Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and UGR in Bawana, Dwarka WTP, Chhatarpur UGR, and Kirari UGR. The major beneficiary areas of these projects are — <g data-gr-id="49">Khampur</g>, Bakoli, <g data-gr-id="50">Hamidpur</g>,<g data-gr-id="51">Singhu</g>, Mahavir Nagar, Janakpuri (A, B and C Block), Old Mahavir Nagar, Bawana DSIIDC, Sultanpur Dabas etc.
As per the data of DJB, presently as many as 1,134 colonies are getting piped water in the city. The Vice Chairperson of DJB and AAP MLA Kapil Mishra claimed that the production of water in Delhi has increased from 835 MGD to 870 MGD since the Aam Aadmi Party came to power.
“We will soon increase the production to 900 MGD. We are working round the clock and ensure Delhi does not face water crisis next summer,” said Mishra.
“Commissioning of Dwarka WTP has been a major success for the board as DJB has taken over and expanded its water distribution network in water-scare areas of the Dwarka Sub City,” said spokesperson of DJB.
After commissioning of the <g data-gr-id="65">plant</g> more colonies were added with piped water supply and water pressure was improved on already water fed colonies in several sectors of Dwarka and adjoining villages.
