NEW DELHI: The water level of the Yamuna river started receding on Thursday, a day after it rose to 205.15 metres, the maximum level for the river in the last five years. According to an official of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, the water level dropped to 204.82 metres in the afternoon and it is expected to recede further.
Almost two weeks after the water level in the Yamuna river here receded, the river again started swelling up on Tuesday and breached the danger mark to touch 205.15 meters. The water released from the barrage, which provides drinking water to Delhi, normally takes 72 hours to reach the city. Himachal Pradesh had been receiving heavy rainfall for the past few days due to which the Yamuna was in spate.
