Women pickpockets target rtd Army captain inside ATM

New Delhi: Two women stole money from the pocket of a 76-year-old retired Army captain in South Delhi's Hauz Khas area on Thursday. According to the victim, no security guard was deployed at the ATM. The accused women fled with Rs 40,000.

Police have registered a case in this regard and investigation is going on. According to police, the incident took place between 1:45 pm to 2 pm on October 3 at a private bank ATM in Hauz Khas's Kaushalaya Park area. The complainant in the case NK Mahajan, who described himself as a "100 percent disabled veteran" of Indo-Pak War of 1971, told Millennium Post that he had withdrawn Rs 50,000 from the bank and kept Rs 40,000 in one of his trouser pockets.

"I was followed by two ladies when I entered the ATM, I asked them to wait and stay out, but they didn't listen and entered the ATM there was no guard available to help me and to stop them," said NK Mahajan. Later one of the ladies reached near him and asked him in Hindi that is there is any problem and quietly one of them stole Rs 40,000 from the pocket of his trouser and fled the spot.

A 55 seconds CCTV footage of the alleged incident accessed by Millennium Post shows that the elderly man entered inside the ATM. Following him, two women also came inside. One of them was carrying a handbag. They were continuously monitoring the old man's ATM transaction.

The CCTV further shows that both the suspects were talking to each other. One of them, through hand gesture, informed her associate to go near the target. After that the women started talking to the elderly man. Meanwhile, the other suspect, who was standing behind the complainant, took out something from his pocket and fled. Later, when the 76-year-old man came out of the ATM, he found his money got stolen.

"In few seconds, I came to know that they took out my money but both of them ran away," added NK Mahajan.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Atul Thakur said that they have registered a case and investigation is in progress. "We have identified both the suspects and they will be arrested soon," DCP South said.
