New Delhi: Delhi Police on Friday said that remains of a woman's body were found floating in a canal in outer Delhi's Mianwali Nagar area.
Police said that they have registered a case of murder and investigation is going on from all angles.
Eyewitnesses informed police about the floating body in the canal around 4 pm.
Cops said the body was found cut in three pieces, with the head found floating at a distance, while the torso and the legs were floating separately.
The torso was wrapped in a blanket and then covered by a sack, but the legs were not covered with any cloth, a senior police officer said.
The officer added that it is suspected that the woman was killed somewhere else and later her body was dumped in the canal, after it was chopped into three pieces to make it difficult to identity her.
"It appears that the woman was in her 20s," the officer said, adding they are focussing on identifying the victim.
"We are checking the database of missing people and have informed police stations across Delhi to inform us if any woman, in her 20s, was reported to be missing in the last few days.
"Since the area where the body was found is bordering Haryana, we are also trying to ascertain whether the woman belonged to that state," he further said.
The officer said that once the victim is identified, post-mortem examination will be conducted, so as to ascertain the extent of her injuries and whether she was sexually assaulted before being killed.
In a similar case, the body of a man employed with the Delhi Jal Board was found inside his car on Friday.
In a similar case, a 28-year-old unidentified woman was found murdered in Palam Vihar area adjoining Delhi on Friday, police said.
Cops said they were waiting for the postmortem report of the deceased to confirm if she was sexually assaulted before her murder.
The woman was found with her throat slit near a fountain in the park here in sector 22. Police said the clothes of the woman were torn, indicating that she might have been raped prior to her murder.
