Noida: A 30-year-old woman has suffered serious injuries in her face and body after two bike-borne assailants sprayed acid on her in Sanjay Nagar area of Ghaziabad on Monday evening.

The woman was targetted at around 4:30 pm on Monday while she was returning on her scooter after dropping her son for tuition. Few eyewitnesses told police that the duo of miscreants were travelling on a motorcycle and both were wearing helmets.

Police said that the woman, with over 50 per cent burn injuries, was rushed to Narendra Mohan hospital in Ghaziabad from where doctors declared her critical and referred her to Max hospital in Vaishali.

"The woman who had been targeted sustained around 50% burns on her face and upper body. There were chances of infection, so we referred her to a higher centre for treatment when her condition deteriorated," said a senior doctor of Narendra Mohan hospital in Ghaziabad. Doctors at Max hospital are yet to give the exact status of her condition. However, she has been kept in the ICU under observation.

Senior Superintendent of Ghaziabad police, Vaibhav Krishna, along with other senior police officials reached Max hospital to meet the victim and directed police officials to probe the matter.

"A case under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code has been registered in connection with the case and a probe has been launched into the matter. We are trying to fetch the CCTV footages of the area to identify the accused persons. As of now it is difficult to ascertain who was behind the incident but investigations are underway," said Krishna.

Earlier in March this year, a 25-year-old woman, working as an ARM (Assistant Relation Manager) in Punjab National Bank of Ghaziabad, suffered severe burn injuries on her shoulder after two unidentified bike borne assailants hurled acid at her while she was going back home in Sahibabad area of Ghaziabad.

Police arrested five persons including a woman as accused in the acid attack case.
