Greater Noida: In a major mishap in a posh residential society of Greater Noida West, a 34-year-old woman was severely injured with multiple fractures after the lift taking her down collapsed and suddenly started falling freely from the 14th floor. It stopped with a thud on the seventh floor causing severe injuries with multiple fractures in her leg.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 12:30 pm in Wisteria tower of Gaur Saundaryam Society near Gaur City roundabout on Tuesday. The lady was living on the 9th floor of the building and was going down for some work. Another lady present in the lift at the time of the incident had a narrow escape.

As per the residents of the society, they reacted after they heard a loud sound from the lift which was followed by screams and cries from inside.

"Reacting to the loud cries and noise of alarm from the lift, we rushed to the seventh floor of the building where the lift was stuck. We tried to open the lift but couldn't. Then with the help of officials from maintenance department, the lift was opened and we found two ladies lying on the floor inside the lift," said a resident.

The injured woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she is being treated. Officials of the hospital have stated that she has received three fractures in her leg.

Officials from the maintenance department of the society said that the lift had a free fall for seven floors due to a power-cut.

Meanwhile, police officials said that they have not received any complaint in this matter.

"As of now, we have no information of the incident and if the victim or their family approaches us, we shall take necessary action against those responsible for the mishap," said Akhilesh Tripathi, Station House officer, Bisrakh police station.

The incident triggered fear among the residents of the society and they have alleged the builder of negligence.

"Despite paying hefty amount as maintenance charges, we are getting no facilities and are continuously being harassed by the builder. We pay around Rs 6,000-7000 per month as maintenance charges. The security inside the society premises is also a reason to worry. We want the authority to take actions against the builder," said Manoj Kumar, a resident.

Meanwhile, we also tried to contact the builder but they were not available for comments.
