New Delhi: "We had told the landlord that the condition of the house was not good, it can fall anytime. But he did not listen and now I have lost my two kids," said Bimalesh, a resident of the building which collapsed in Sawan Park.
At Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, the families of the deceased were inconsolable. While Bimalesh lost his children, Umesh lost his two kids, wife and brother Lakshman as well.
Bimalesh, a native of Hardoi, who works as a labourer, told Millennium Post that ten days ago, he was ready to move out. But the landlord Dharmendra convinced him to stay, promising to give him another house on rent.
"Today, I barely had walked a few metres from the house, when the building collapsed. My two children Rajnesh (4) and Sumnesh (12) got trapped," he said.
Sitting beside Bimalesh, his wailing wife was being consoled by their daughter. The family also lost the money and jewellery they had collected for their daughter's marriage.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, ambulances continue to rush in, as police personnel and private guards make sure that no untoward situation occurs.
Less than 10 metres away from Bimalesh is Umesh, another tenant who lost his children. "I had called the landlord and shown him the condition of the house. But he paid no heed," said Umesh.
Around 7 am, Umesh had just left for work, soon after which he came to know about the incident and rushed to the spot. When he found out his children's fate, he broke down in tears.
Outside the hospital gate, a list of the victims was posted, with their health updates. Many of the injured were referred to another hospital. According to the list, some of the victims suffered from closed left humerus, multiple fractures and scalp laceration.
