Undertrial found dead in Tihar jail

New Delhi: A 21-year-old undertrial prisoner at Tihar Jail was found dead under mysterious circumstances, Delhi Police said on Saturday.

The deceased, who identity has not been revealed, was an accused in a sexual assault case in outer Delhi's Ranhola and had been lodged in jail number five from 2015.

Police said that they were informed about the incident around 1 pm on Saturday. A magisterial inquiry will be conducted in the case, they added.

An official from the jail said that the inmate had himself banged his head into the wall and killed himself.

Last Tuesday, a 22-year-old man was killed inside the Rohini jail on Tuesday, with police claiming that he was strangulated to death by another inmate in the prison after the deceased did not follow the orders of the accused.
