New Delhi: The two teams of Crime Branch conducted simultaneous raids and busted two separate cricket betting rackets in Delhi. Police arrested six persons in the case.
Police said that around Rs. One Crore 35 lakhs stake money has been booked. Payment of cricket betting was also being made through the digital wallet.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajeev Ranjan said that the Anti Human Trafficking Units (AHTU) busted a betting racket at Rohini while the SOS-1 busted another betting racket at Shakti Nagar.
Police identified the accused as Sandeep (40), Pankaj (35), Arun (31), Amit (31), Deepak Gupta (38) and Rajeev Sachdeva (52).
Police said on June 28 team under ACP Surender Gulia, raided house Rohini and apprehended Sandeep, Pankaj, Arun and Amit while they were running the betting racket. They used to receive the rates through a mobile app.
The gang has been running the Cricket Betting Racket since the past one and half years.
"Sandeep works as a scrap dealer in Mangolpuri. Pankaj also works as a scrap dealer in Rohini. Arun runs a mobile shop in Rohini and Amit works in a private firm in Sirsa, Haryana," said Additional CP.
On July 27 another team of crime branch raided Shakti Nagar Extension and arrested Deepak Gupta and Rajeev Sachdeva while they were running the betting racket.
"The 'bookies' had already taken bets worth more than Rs. 35 lakhs of stake money on the ongoing cricket match between India Vs West Indies," police said.
It was found that the betting rates of the match were being received continuously on a mobile phone. Payment of the stake money was also being entered in laptop.
"During interrogation both the accused persons disclosed that they had taken a flat in Shakti Nagar on monthly rent for this purpose," police said.
