Greater Noida: Following a dispute, which led to a fight, two middle-aged men were bludgeoned to death in Dadri area of Greater Noida while their bodies were recovered from near a river in Zu-3 sector of Greater Noida, police said on Tuesday.

Police on Tuesday morning received a PCR call informing that the bodies of two men were lying near a river in sector Zu-3. A team from Dadri police station reached the spot and recovered the bodies, which were identified as those of Balbeer and Mahesh, both in their late 30s and natives of Dabra village in Dadri.

"At around 8:30 am we received a call from a local person who informed us about the incident. We immediately reached the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem. Both the victims were brutally murdered while their faces were also crushed with a heavy object in order to hide their identity," said Vineet Jaiswal, Superintendent of Police (rural).

Police suspect that they were murdered by some men of their neighbouring village as they were last spotted with them at a dhaba, couple of kilometres away from their home.

"Initial investigations have revealed that the duo had drinks with some persons of their neighbouring village, Raipur, and we suspect that a dispute might have broken out between them following which they were murdered. Meanwhile, we have detained two suspects for questioning and further probe into the case is on. We are expecting to make a breakthrough soon," added Jaiswal. The officer further said that deceased Balbeer had a fight with the accused persons a few days ago. Police are conducting raids at suspected hideouts to nab the accused.

Following the incident, the family members of deceased staged a protest by putting the dead body on the road at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida on Tuesday evening. The family members alleged that police are trying to save the culprits. However, they were pacified after senior police officials intervened and assured them a quick and fair probe.
